Effect of food poisoning on religious program in Malda of Bengal: 500 got sick

In Hamidpur, West Bengal's Malda district, at least 500 people were suffering from food poisoning. About 70 persons were rushed to Bangitola Rural Hospital on Sunday after suffering from stomach upset and vomiting, health officer of Kalichok-Bay Block said. The patients were from villages in Sibutola, Sripur, Tinghoria and Jogolatola.

Others were allowed to go home with first aid in Bangitola. Mistry said he was sick after eating some food on the Shivratri occasion in Sibutola. Hearing the news that hundreds of people fell ill on Sunday, Motihari MLA Sabina Yasmin, Kaliyachok block development officer of Kaliyachok block The incident was rushed to the spot.

Two medical camps were started immediately to treat patients. The district administration created special medical teams to treat the sick.

Although both camps were closed today, people were being provided medicine at home, Mistry said. MLA Yasmin said these people had gone to Kirtan and got sick after eating prasadis there.

Ghising said five ambulances were dispatched to the affected villages and 200 health tubewells were operated by Public Health Engineering to clean and unhook. Samples of drinking water were sent to the laboratory for testing.
