With 51,000 tonnes of e-waste generated annually, the same charger for all smartphones!

Brussels, Ta. January 18, 2020, Saturday

You have to keep as many chargers as there are mobiles in the house and different types of chargers have to be kept. Due to this variation, e-waste is estimated to be around 51,000 tonnes worldwide.

Because with the purchase of a new phone, people are buying a new charger. Most mobile phone manufacturers charge USB as a charger. But for some companies like Apple, chargers have different pins. It requires a new charger.

European Union countries have begun deliberations to rid the world of this problem. At the next meeting of the union, every smartphone maker will have a vote on whether to keep a uniform charger.

If voting takes place, then every company selling phones in Europe will have to make the same charger. Then the model will automatically be applied worldwide and the electronic waste will be reduced in the same way, and the cost behind the charger will also decrease. The issue was discussed at a union meeting.

It was also noted in the discussion that it is not necessary to get a new charger every time you buy a new phone. But the company is providing chargers with every phone. So the number of chargers in the house is increasing and eventually it is converted to electronic waste. Reducing e-waste is very important for environmental protection. Therefore, the union has taken serious consideration of this issue.
