Pre-paid mobile in Kashmir, 2G services launched in two districts

Srinagar, Ta. January 18, 2020, Saturday

After five months, prepaid mobile service has been resumed in Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, the 2G service of Postpaid Mobile has also been resumed, though the 2G service has not yet been launched on prepaid mobile.

As well, the two services which have been launched will be applicable only in Kupwada, Bandipora, while other areas will be started later, the administration said. On the other hand, prepaid mobile service has been started in the state but internet service has been started in only two districts and limited to two.

The Supreme Court criticized the government over internet restrictions and said that the Internet is a fundamental right of the citizen and no one can take it away. After article 370 was abolished from Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, mobiles, internet, etc. were suspended in the state.

Demand for the service was resumed for a long time and a petition was filed in the Supreme Court. So now the government has started two-way service in two districts as well as prepaid mobile service in the state.
