Uttarakhand, Ta. 19. Sunday, January 2020

Names are usually found in Hindi, English, along with the local language of the state at railway stations.

Now the names of all the railway stations in Uttarakhand state will be removed by writing in Sanskrit. Earlier, the names of the railway stations were written in Hindi, English and Urdu.

Railway officials said that as per the rules of the railway, the names of the railway stations in each state are written in Hindi, English and other political languages of the state.

Uttarakhand gave Sanskrit the second political language status in the state in 2010. At that time, Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had said that such decision has been taken to propagate Sanskrit in the state.

Railway officials have said that it would be a challenge for us to translate the names of all the railway stations into Sanskrit. We have written a letter to all the districts where the railway stations are located and sent them the correct Sanskrit name.
