The Air Force has deployed its most lethal Sukhoi-30 aircraft to strengthen the defense of coastal areas of southern India.
The squadron, known as the 222nd Tiger Shark, of Sukhoi-30 aircraft has been deployed at Thanjavur Airbase in Tamil Nadu on Monday.
Officials including Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat and Air Force Chief RKS Bhadoria were present at the ceremony.
Thanjavur Airbase, where Sukhoi's squadron is deployed, was established in 2013. The purpose of the Indian Air Force's sending of Sukhoi aircraft here is to strengthen the security of the southern coastal coasts. There is also a contingent of Tejas aircraft at Coimbatore Airbase in Tamil Nadu.
