Breaking Opposition to CAA Issue: Mamata's nominee for Sonia's seat

Mamata Banerjee accuses Congress of adopting different policies in Congress-CA, New Delhi on CAA-NRC issue

West Bengal chief minister displeased with riots and violence in the state in a nationwide strike by trade unions

(PTI) Kolkata, Ta. January 9, 2020, Thursday

Citizenship reform law (CAA) and issues like the NRC and NPR were vandalized on Thursday in opposition to the Pamodi government.

Accusing West and Congress of playing dirty politics on the Congress and the Left, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has refused to attend a January 13 meeting called by Sonia Gandhi to protest anti-people policies of the Modi government. However, her party will continue to oppose the CAA and the NRC alone, Mamata Banerjee said.

A meeting of opposition parties has been convened in Delhi on January 13, under the leadership of the then interim president Sonia Gandhi, to discuss the burning issues of the country's current status quo. Banerjee has refused to attend the meeting.

Mamata Banerjee told the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Thursday that we will not participate in a Congress-organized meeting to protest the violence and riots in the state during the nationwide shutdown of trade unions on Wednesday. At the same time, Mamata said that our fight against CAA, NRC, NPR will continue, but we will not endorse closed and violent demonstrations.

On Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee also targeted Congress and the Left to support the trade unions' 24-nationwide strike. He said that people who have no political existence are striking. These people are trying to damage the economy here by playing lower level politics like Bandh.

They support the intention of the dam, but their party and government are opposed to any kind of closure. When the opposition called for passage of the resolution in the House against the CAA, Mamata Banerjee said that there was no need for a new resolution as the House passed a resolution against the NRC all over the country in September last year.

Angry when Mamata Banerjee called for a fresh resolution by the Congress and the Left MLAs, she said, "You people are adopting a different policy in West Bengal and in Delhi you adopt a completely opposite policy." I do not want to join you in opposition to the CAA and the NRC.

Several organizations called for a ban on India on Wednesday in protest of the Center's economic policies, civil reforms law and the proposed NRC, NPR. The closure caused storms by Left-backed trade unions in West Bengal. Those who opposed the strike struggled with the police and vandalized public property.

Sonia Gandhi has convened a meeting on January 13 to bring opposition to the Modi government, which is facing mass outrage at the JNU on Sunday night, by the RSS student body ABVP. Mamata Banerjee claimed that she had called for an opposition platform against the anti-people policies of the Modi government, but it was not possible to attend this meeting after Wednesday's violence by leftists in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee announced that from Friday her party will sit on a non-stop rally in Kolkata in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the proposed NRC. The pattern will continue until the Modi government withdraws the citizenship reform law. Mamata Banerjee is constantly opposing CAA. After the passage of the Act through Parliament, Mamata Banerjee organized a 10th rally in Bengal.

Mamata Banerjee tries to please BJP: Congress - Left accusation

Kolkata, Ta. 9

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee announced that she was absent from a meeting convened by Sonia Gandhi and accused the Congress and the Left of killing the BJP's top leadership. West Bengal Congress leader Abdul Mannan said that Mamata Banerjee was trying to appease BJP leaders. They are adopting double standards themselves. He wants to maintain good relations with the BJP, which is why he does not want to attend the meeting. CPI (M) Politburo Mohammad Salim accused Banerjee of hitting the opposition's efforts to stage a forum on burning issues in the country. He said that who is in favor of RSS is clearly seen. They just want to show opposition.

The opposition is only doing vote bank politics: BJP

West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh said Mamata Banerjee's decision to be absent at Sonia Gandhi's seat clearly shows that these parties are merely politicizing votebank. They cannot stay together for long on any issue. Because doing so is mutually affecting their vote bank.

Thanks for the CAA. Proceedings in the Territory
