Abortion can also be done in 24th week: Modi government's decision

Modi government has decided to ease abortion laws. As part of this, the Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to increase the abortion time limit from 20 weeks to 24 weeks without approval.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet today. The Act of Abortion Act, 1971 will be amended to enforce this rule.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said after the meeting that raising the deadline would provide relief to the victims and rapes of rap victims.

Last year, a public plea was made to the court to extend the abortion deadline. During the hearing, the Health Ministry told the Delhi High Court that the government was considering extending the abortion time limit to 20 weeks.

The Health Ministry had also filed an affidavit in this regard before the court. This petition was made by a person named Amit Sahni. He said that due to the health of women and their fetus, the time limit for abortions should be increased from 20 weeks to 24 or 2 weeks. The way a woman has the right to conceive. That is how women should have the right to abortion.
