The Janata Dal cracks over the issue of citizenship reform bill

New Delhi, Dec 10, 2019, Tuesday

In the Lok Sabha, the Janata Dal was cracked at the issue of the Citizenship Improvement Bill, which had gone through a large majority. Party leader Prashant Kishore opened his own front.

The Citizenship Improvement Bill passed by 311 votes in the Lok Sabha. He is scheduled to appear in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, when the Modi government is going to be severely tested. When the bill was passed, the Janata Dal voted in its favor. But some people in the party do not like the idea.

Janata Dal United Vice President Prashant Kishore said the bill is against the Indian Constitution. It cannot be supported. Our party in the Lok Sabha did wrong by supporting the bill.

On Monday evening, Prashant Kishore wrote on Twitter that the Janata Dal had done wrong by supporting the bill. This bill violates the spirit of secularism set forth in the Constitution. I am very frustrated with the party's attitude. This bill, which discriminates on the basis of religion, is reduced to opposition.

However, he has not announced any partisanship or separation. But his view that his views have turned out to be different from the party's leadership can hurt the party in the long run.
