The bill is an attempt to divide India in North India: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi Ta-11 Dec 2019, Wednesday

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi termed the Citizenship Amendment Bill a government attempt to disintegrate in northeast India and said that we will stop the passage of the bill at any cost.

Referring to the violent protests taking place in the states of India all over the North against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, he said, "We are and will remain with the people of North India."

In a message posted on Twitter, Rahul wrote that the BJP had introduced the bill in the Lok Sabha in an attempt to divide India in the Indian states. We are against it. We will not let this effort succeed.

"Me and my party are with the people of Ishaan India and we stand on their feet to serve them," Rahul said.

Rahul wrote on Twitter that the bill violates the basic clauses of the Indian Constitution. It is our duty to uphold the Constitution and we will not pay it. We are organically opposed to this bill.

He said that the bill wounds the integrity and foundation of India. If the bill becomes law, there is a possibility of unrest in the country.
