Submit a referendum to the UN's oversight of citizenship law and the NRC: Mamata

(PTI) Kolkata, Tal. December 19, 2019, Thursday

The Trinamool Congress organized a protest against the Citizenship Improvement Act. In that, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the central government should hold a referendum on the citizenship reform law and the UN supervision on the NRC issue. Mamata Banerjee threw the central government the challenge of implementing both laws on the basis of referendum.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said at a rally in protest against Trinamool Congress' citizenship reform law, why after all these years of independence, citizenship reform was needed? The BJP's divisive mentality has come to light.

If there is indeed a government calculation to enforce the Citizenship Improvement Act and the NRC, then the government should hold a referendum on UN supervision and decide on the outcome. Challenging the central government, the chief minister of West Bengal said that if the government held a referendum, everything would have come out. The people of the country are not in support of this law.

Mamata Banerjee alleged that in the name of citizenship reform law, BJP wanted to cause riots between Hindus and Muslims in the country. The BJP has a majority which does not mean that it can do anything in the country. Where were the BJP's founding leaders when the independence struggle was underway?

Even though 32 per cent of the BJP voted, 68 per cent did not vote. He called these appearances and rallies a fight for the rights. Mamata Banerjee also warned the people of West Bengal about the agenda of the water list government.
