Six hundred dignitaries from different sectors of Indian society wrote to the Prime Minister requesting the withdrawal of citizenship reform bill.

The appeal stated that the bill violates the doctrine of secularism enshrined in the Indian Constitution. Citizenship cannot be determined on the basis of religion. This will end Hindu Muslim brotherhood in the society and mutual hostility will increase.

The bill passed by a large majority in the Lok Sabha. The BJP is almost sure that the Bill will be passed in the Rajya Sabha, which is scheduled to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha and will be supported by the Shiv Sena or the JDU.
