Nirbhaya criminals have to be hanged. But do you know how there are ways to execute the death penalty in India? Is there a death sentence in India just hanging from the gallows or is there any other way by which a greater penalty is imposed? The Code of Criminal Procedure (1898) has the provision of hanging and hanging. This provision was also adopted in the Code of Criminal Procedures (1973).

The practice of death sentences for criminals in general is centuries old, but in modern history, a new way of execution was discovered by William Marwood of Britain. He found the mechanism of hanging by the same lever. Apart from this, another way of giving death sentence in India is to shoot. But this practice is not used for ordinary citizens. It is used only after a court martial in the Indian Army.

The Army Act, the Navy Act and the Air Force Act have provisions for firing a death sentence. Section 34 of the Air Force Act 1950 provides that a court-martial can impose a death sentence on a person who is hanged or shot to death. The law of the army states that at the time of the death sentence, a court martial can decide whether to hang or be shot on the gallows until the perpetrator dies. It should be ensured that the offender is killed in both ways.
