Nirbhaya case: Chief judge dismissed from review petition hearing

New delhi date. December 17, 2019, Tuesday

Akshay Kumar Singh, who was convicted in the Nirbhaya case, filed a review petition in the Supreme Court. It was sought that the court reconsider the Supreme Court's ruling in 2017.

The review petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. However, Chief Judge SA Bobde had rescinded himself from hearing the review petition.

A bench of Chief Justice Bobde, Judge R Bhanumati, Ashok Bhushan had made it clear that the case will be heard before another bench but not before our bench, so the matter will be heard by another bench at 10.30am tomorrow.

Explaining this, CJI Bobday said that one of my relatives had argued in this case on behalf of the victim's mother so it would not be appropriate for me to hear the case, another bench will be constituted which will hear tomorrow at 10.30 am.

Petitioner Akshay also raised questions about pollution in Delhi in the review petition. He said that when the age of the people is decreasing in Delhi due to pollution, how appropriate would it be to execute such executions? While another convicted Vinay demanded the mercy petition be withdrawn.

Another convict, Ram Singh, committed suicide in Tihar Jail. Mukesh, Pawan and Vinay filed a review petition last year. Which was rejected by the Supreme Court. Later another convict Vinay sent a mercy petition to the President demanding his return. He claimed that I did not sign this mercy petition.

On the other hand, Tihar Jail in Delhi has prepared to execute the culprits. Uttar Pradesh ADG Anand Kumar said, "We received a letter through Tihar Jail on December 9 through fax.

It has been requested to serve the two Jatis of UP as Tihar Jail does not currently have any Jalal. Although there is no mention of hanging the culprits in this letter, there is a possibility that the Nirbhaya case convicts could be hanged anytime.
