Know what is the unequal agreement when the citizenship bill is being so opposed?

Ahmedabad. December 12, 2019, Thursday

The Citizenship Research Bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. People in Assam are protesting violently against the bill. Demonstrators allege that the bill violated the Assam Agreement in 1985 and damaged the sentiments and interests of its original residents when it came to the Assam Agreement.

In the by-elections of 1979 Lok Sabha, the number of voters increased at the Mangaldorai seat. The investigation revealed that this happened because of illegal refugees in Bangladesh. After that, the original Assam residents started a violent protest against the illegal refugees. The protests lasted for 6 years. The demonstration killed 885 people. The then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi made a unanimous agreement in 1985 and later the event fell silent.

The agreement stated that after March 25, 1971, foreigners in Assam should be identified and expelled from the country. The deadline for other states was 1951. The new deadline in the Citizenship Research Bill-2019 has been set in 2014. To which the demonstrators say, the new deadline is violating the Assam Agreement. He also said that this Bill is also violating Rule 6 of the Assam Agreement.

It was stated that the NRC would be implemented in the unequal agreement. However, no work has been done on the NRC for 35 years. When work on the Assam NRC started on August 31, 2019, the names of 19 lakh people were dropped from its list. Most of the people who came out were Hindus and people from the Aboriginal community. Now, Assam protesters say that the coming of the citizenship bill will curtail the influence of the NRC and it will give citizenship to the illegal refugees.

The original inhabitants of Assam are opposed to this because they fear that by changing the law, Hindus from Bangladesh will get citizenship. This Bangladeshi Hindu will challenge the rights of the original residents of Assam. Which will have an impact on their culture, language, traditions and customs. We can no longer bear the burden of more refugees.

The original residents of Assam are convinced that by changing the law, Hindus from Bangladesh will get citizenship. This Bangladeshi Hindu will challenge the rights of the original residents of Assam. The natives of Assam will have an impact on the culture, language, traditions and customs. We can no longer bear the burden of more refugees. Under the Citizenship Research Bill 2019, the deadline for citizenship in India is set for 2014. On the other hand, protesters say that millions of refugees came to Assam from 1951 to 1971. It can no longer afford the burden of more refugees. The new law of the Central Government will violate the Assam Agreement in 1985.
