New delhi date. 08 November 2019, Sunday

Onion prices have set a new record across the country despite efforts by the central government. Onion prices are rising daily. A fort onion is getting 200 rupees at Madurai. A customer in the region said that the customers who used to buy five forts now buy only one fort onion.

Onion prices have risen sharply since May this year. Onion production was low last year. This time too, production has been reduced due to floods and rains, due to which onion prices are increasing. Apart from this, traders attributed the adverse policies of the government to the cause of this.

Maharashtra is the largest cultivator of onion. Maharashtra accounts for 35% of the total onion production in India. Due to the monsoon rains in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat since September, the onion crop has reached Naxan.
