Benares, Ta. December 10, 2019, Tuesday

A Muslim professor at Banaras Hindu University was appointed in the Sanskrit department, which was opposed by those studying in this department as well as other students of the University and demanded that the professor be removed from this department as a Muslim.

There was a lot of controversy in this regard and the students were out on protest, though this professor eventually left the Sanskrit department and the students who had started teaching in other departments had withdrawn.

Protests were being staged by BHU's student body, SVDV. These students demanded that Feroz Khan is a Muslim and could not teach about the rituals of Sanskrit and Hindus.

The students later came out on the protest, while on the other hand, many students from the same university also came out for the demonstration in support of the professor, so the controversy got worse.

Amidst the controversy over this matter, Feroz Khan has resigned from the Sanskrit department, this professor was till now in BHU's Sanskrit Vidya Dham Vidya Vidyalaya, leaving behind which he chose the Sanskrit department so he will study Sanskrit and Ayurveda. Students, on the other hand, have withdrawn their protests in this regard.

The protesting students claimed that our opposition was not that of any Muslim but non-Hindu as Sanskrit is a subject associated with Hinduism and that is why we choose Hindu professor in it.

Khan was interviewed on the 29th as a professor in the Sanskrit department. In which they have been selected. Feroz Khan has withdrawn from the matter and now the students have returned to study in the classroom.
