Two trains collide in Bangladesh: 16 killed, over 50 injured

At least 16 people were killed and more than 50 people were injured in a serious rail accident in Bangladesh's Brahmanbaria district on Tuesday. At present, the injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment and the death toll is likely to go higher.

The President of the Railway Police said that there was a confrontation between Udayan Express, which runs from Sylhat to Chittagong near Udaipur Express and Mishra to Nishita from Chittagong on Tuesday morning.

The accident was so severe that both trains were badly damaged. After the accident, the screams of the people began to ring and many people were running away to save lives. As soon as the incident was reported, the rescue team reached there and rushed the injured to the hospital for treatment.

At least 16 people were killed in the accident and trains were affected on the rail link route of Dhaka, besides Chittagong and Silhouette. Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their grief over the accident.

When Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan announced the return of one lakh Bangladeshi families to the families of the deceased after a visit to the incident site. In addition, the district administration has also announced compensation of 25,000 Bangladeshi percent to the families of the deceased.

Early in the morning Udayan was heading towards the express platform at the time it was hit by another train and two coaches were completely damaged. The district police chief has expressed the possibility that the death toll will still increase and ordered an investigation to find out the cause of the accident.
