Doctors at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi have set a record with a successful operation to remove 53 stones from a salivary gland (spit tube) in the neck of a 66-year-old Iraqi woman.

Iraqi women suffer from constant pain and swelling in the parotid gland after meals or after drinking water. Doctors in Iraq and most of its surroundings suggested a procedure to remove the woman from the parotid gland, in which the face becomes paralyzed and a striking mark. The woman came to India after learning about a procedure called cylandoscopy and was satisfied with the successful operation.

In this operation, a small endoscope measuring 1.3 mm is inserted into the parotid gland and obstructions are identified. During the month of September last, beds were extracted one by one with the help of a basket and phosphorus without any cuts to the body of the woman.

Doctors removed the beds that were trapped in his salivary gland in a two-hour operation. During the investigation, the woman's right parotid tube was found to contain multiple stones and the largest stone was about eight mm and was trapped between the tubes.

"The biggest challenge was to remove all beds so that the gland or the three-mm-wide tube could not be harmed," said Varun Rai, a hospital E&T consultant. After the surgery, the woman was allowed to go home, and doctors allowed her to enjoy all kinds of food and drink, claiming she was completely healthy.
