Millions of devotees drown in rivers after the Kartiki Poonam

Today, on the occasion of the wind of Kartiki Poonam, the devotees took a dip in hope at various places across Uttar Pradesh. The pilgrims from the Ganga, Gomti and Saryu rivers have been busy since morning.

Thousands of believers plunged into the Gomati river on the Manakameshwar Ghat in Lucknow. Mahant Devagiri of the Mankameshwar Temple said that people from different sections of the society drowned in the Gomati river on the occasion of Kartiki Poonam. Moreover, Saryu in Ayodhya, while pilgrims also drowned in the Ganges and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj.

A large number of devotees bathed in the river Saryu with tight security in Ayodhya. On the first religious occasion in Ayodhya, devotees emerged after a Supreme Court verdict in connection with the Ram Janmabhoomi Babri Masjid. People gathered together on the banks of the river Saryu. Hymns were heard from loudspeakers.

Several pilgrims from surrounding districts spent the night in the camp near the Saryu river, floods of Jai Sitaram shouting on the roads flooded the various banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya this morning. A large number of devotees from nearby districts also took the plunge.

Asutosh Varshanay, co-ordinator of Ramnam Bank and Ram Seva Nyas, based in Prayagraj, said that the full moon coincidence is celebrated in the month of Kartak. That is, a Diwali which is celebrated by the gods. This event is also called Deviwali. Diwali is celebrated 15 days after Diwali. He said that Gangette clay lamps are lit on the occasion of the deity.

According to a report from Baliya, thousands of devotees sank on the occasion of Kartiki Poonam on the Ganpati-Tamsa coast of Maharishi Bhrigu Muni and earned a bounty by giving Lord Suryadev after bathing.

After that, Bhagun Muni and his disciple Dardar Muni worshiped and prayed for the welfare of the family. Pilgrims from the rural areas looted the madari fair. For security reasons a large number of police personnel were present from Mahaviraghat to Shivrampur Ghat.
