Mig 29-K fighter plane crashes in Goa: both pilots safe

The MiG-29 plane crashed in Goa within minutes of counting for the Indian Navy's training mission. However, fortunately both pilots managed to escape safely and the casualties were avoided.

The victim of the crash was a trainer version of the fighter jet. According to Naval Spokesman Commander Vivek Madhwal, the accident took place due to a fire in the engine of the MiG-29 trainer. But fortunately Pilot Captain M Shokhand and Lt. Commander Deepak Yadav were safely out.

So far the MiG-29 engine has not been known to cause a failure, but some reports claim it was a mishap due to a bird hit with the aircraft. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to both pilots and expressed satisfaction that they had managed to escape safely. In addition, he prayed for the good health and welfare of both pilots.

Naval sources said the crash victim had landed in an open field. Eyewitnesses to the crash reported the two parachutes to the police, looking at the fumes of the smoke.
