Is there anything like privacy of people in the country or not? : Question of the Supreme Court

New delhi date. November 4, 2019, Monday

The Supreme Court has dismissed the Chhattisgarh government over phone tapping of a senior IPS officer and his family. At the same time, the Supreme Court said, "Is there anything like privacy in the country?" The Supreme asked the Chhattisgarh government whether such a violation of a citizen's right to privacy was justified?

During the hearing of the case on Monday, the court has asked the government to answer the question and asked who was saying that the officer and his family's phones were being tapped. Senior IPS officer Mukesh Gupta filed a petition in the Supreme Court and accused the Chhattisgarh government of tapping phone calls from him and his family members.

A bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Indira Banerjee has directed the Chhattisgarh government to file an affidavit in this regard. The court told the government that in the affidavit it was mentioned who ordered the phone tapping and what was the reason? The court, criticizing the Chhattisgarh government, said, "What is the need to do so?"

What's going on in this country? Is there such a thing as citizen privacy? The court also disputed the FIR on the IPS officer's lawyer. The court had on October 25 banned the phone tapping of the officer and his family members.

The Supreme Court has refused the Chhattisgarh government to take any action against the IPS officer at present. Besides, the FIR on the lawyer is also banned. The court also directed the lawyer not to give Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghal a political color in the case.

It has also ordered the removal of the Chief Minister's name from the application. Mukesh Gupta has also been charged with unlawful phone tapping and violating the Indian Telegraph Act during an investigation into the civil supply scandal in 2015.
