Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Sri Lanka's new President Rajapaksa on his victory, but on the other hand, Rajapaksa may increase the difficulty for India. Their past has been that they have allowed China to infiltrate China via sea.
Some experts believe that Rajapaksa's victory will have the opposite effect on relations with India. Rajapaksa came to India in October 2014, during which India opposed the Chinese submarine infiltration by sea.
However, the protest message which India gave to Rajapaksa had no effect on him, and a few days after he returned to Sri Lanka from India, Sri Lanka again allowed Chinese submarines to infiltrate. Sri Lanka claimed that we had informed India about the Chinese submarine.
Besides, the Rajapaksa family has already been abusing Tamils living in Sri Lanka. His brother Mahinda, who became the current president, killed the Tamil rebels while Rajpaksa was in the Defense Ministry at that time and the army was in his hands.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued anti-India statements in 2017. On the other hand, there is no Rajpaksa candidate in the Tamil and Muslim population in Sri Lanka which has proved to be a divisive factor in Sri Lanka.
