Honeypreet faces charges against 40 people in connection with Dera violence

The court has set charges against 2017 Dera Sacha Sauda President Gurmeet Ram Rahim's adopted daughter Honeypreet Insa and 39 others, who are serving a punishment in the rape case. The Dera president was convicted in two rape cases after his supporters staged violent demonstrations in August 2017 in which 36 people were killed.

The CJM Rohit Watts court on Wednesday fixed the charges under other sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rioting and illegal gathering. Defense lawyer said that Honeypreet alias Priyanka Taneja was present in the court.

Violence erupted in Panchkula, Haryana in August 2017. Honeypreet had earlier been charged with conspiracy to commit criminal conspiracy and treason. However, the Panchkula court had relieved her by removing the treason clause against Honeypreet and she was also granted bail shortly before this.
