New delhi date. November 21, 2019, Thursday

The central government has revoked Telangana Rashtra Samithi legislator Chinameni Ramesh's citizenship in Telangana. The Home Ministry said in this regard that under Section 10 of the Citizenship Act, 1955, their citizenship is terminated.

However, Ramesh has been in politics for the last 15 years. For 15 years he has been elected from the Vemulwada assembly seat in Telangana. He is also the nephew of former Maharashtra state governor C Vidyasagar.

Ramesh moved to Germany for employment in the early 1990s, where he obtained German citizenship in 1993. Meanwhile, he quit Indian citizenship. When he returned to India in 2008, he applied for Indian citizenship again. Citizenship was granted .He became the MLA in the 2009 assembly elections.

However, the rule regarding citizenship is that a person applying for Indian citizenship must stay in India for at least 12 months before the date of application.

Adi Srinivas, a local leader who contested Ramesh, complained to the Home Ministry that Ramesh still holds German passports and had traveled to Germany in the 12 months before he applied for citizenship.

The Home Ministry committee has examined the matter and concluded that Ramesh obtained Indian citizenship by hiding the facts. In 2011, his citizenship was revoked but he got a stay from the High Court. In 2018, he was re-elected as a MLA.

The High Court remanded the matter to the Home Ministry. The Home Ministry has ordered the cancellation of their citizenship. However, Ramesh has threatened to go to court again.
