A bill to remove SPG security of the former PM's family will be tabled in Parliament next week

New delhi date. November 22, 2019, Friday

The winter session is currently underway in Parliament. Following this, some bills are being introduced by the government, including a bill related to the SPG Act.

As much as the former Prime Minister of the government wants to remove the SPG protection that his family gets, however, the law has to be amended so the government has prepared a bill which will be introduced in Parliament next week.

The move is being taken by the government at a time when controversy over the security of the Gandhi family is underway. The government had removed the SPG security provided to the Gandhi family. After three decades, the protection of the Gandhi family has been removed, which has now surrounded the government in this regard.

In the midst of this situation, the government has now introduced a bill which, if passed, would remove the SPG protection provided to the family of the former prime minister from now on, and will not be given to any former PM's family in the coming days.

Under current SPG laws, SPG protection is given to current and former Prime Ministers as well as their families. But if the law is amended, the family of the former prime minister will not be protected by SPG from now on.

In any security category, SPG is top notch and the most intensive security is provided under it. The new bill, which was approved by the cabinet on Wednesday, will now be tabled in the Lok Sabha next week.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was given SPG protection, though his security has also been removed and he has now been given the protection of the Z Plus category.

That is, if SPG protection is removed then any other security mechanism will be created. Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated, which led to SPG protection for his family, namely Rahul, Sonia and Priyanka Gandhi. However, this security has been lifted after 28 years.
