Two-day FATF summit begins today, Pakistan likely to be blacklisted

Paris, Ta-14 October 2019, Monday

A Pakistani delegation headed by Economic Affairs Minister Hammad Azhar arrived in Paris to attend the two-day FATF summit, which begins today. At the summit, it was learned that Pakistan could not blacklist FATF in the matter of terror funding and money laundering.

Thus the FATF placed Pakistan on the gray list in June 2018 and asked to respond to 27 issues. Some of these issues were answered by Pakistan but FATF was not satisfied. That is to say, if Pakistan cannot fully confirm the FATF in a two-day summit that begins on Monday, October 14, it will be placed on the black list.

The report on terror funding and money laundering to Pakistan is to be discussed at this summit. As such, the FATF has previously informed Pakistan that we believe your actions are not satisfactory. While putting Pakistan on the gray list in June of 2018, the FATF suggested 27 steps that Pakistan should take by September 2019. The two-day summit, which began today, will review the answer given to Pakistan on this.
