Turkey launches airstrikes on Kurdish province in northern Syria

Ankara, Ta. October 9, 2019, Wednesday

The situation in Syria has worsened due to internal and external conflicts for eight years. The northern part of Syria is occupied by the so-called Kurdish people (Sunni Muslim). The Kurds have until now been supported by the United States.

The US-Kurdish war was fought against Isis militants. The Kurds are a large organization, with political and military strength. It was a Kurdish organization that gave America the largest and strongest support for the fight against Isis in the Middle East.

Now the US has decided to withdraw its troops from that Kurdish province. At the same time, Turkey, in the north of Syria, began bombing the Kurdish province today.

Political and geographical puzzle

The province is politically turbulent, as well as extremely confusing geographically. The northeastern part of Syria is dominated by the Kurdish people. When the revolution began in 2011 in different Arab nations, the revolution began in Syria too. Bashar al-Assad was in power in Syria. Against whom many were opposed. One of the opposing classes was the Kurdish people, which is a minority in Syria. Taking advantage of the internal war that began after 2011, the Kurdish people, together with the Arabs, established the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF). A force captured the northern part of Syria. Although the province is of Syria, it is ruled by the Kurdish authorities, not the Syrian government. After the 2011 revolution, the whole of Syria is divided into four parts and four separate governments rule the territory.

Syria's Refugee, Turkey's Problem

As the internal war started, the Syrian people began to flee the country. About 36 million refugees camped in the neighboring country of Turkey. Turkey has repeatedly protested against it. But after the rise of terrorist organization Isis, the US fought with the SDF in the area. Turkey proposed that a 30-kilometer stretch be allocated to the Kurdish-occupied Syria for millions of refugees coming from Syria. So all the refugees who are assembled in Turkey can be sent there. This demand could not be fulfilled till now.

America departed, the war began

Despite internal protests within the United States, the United States decided to withdraw the troops in the Kurdish province. The decision is viewed by the Kurds as a betrayal by the United States. On the other hand, Turkey has launched an airstrike on vulnerable Kurds, as the US vacates. The attack has led to several explosions in the city of Ras-al-Ain and surrounding areas. Of course, the US military did not depart. There are still 1,000 US troops in the area, but these troops are not going to participate in the war after announcing the US withdrawal. On the other hand, there are 60,000 Kurdish fighters who are responding to Turkey in their own way. According to Turkey, the Kurds are a terrorist.

Loss of America, Russia's advantage

If America withdraws from here, America's hold on this region of the Middle East will also loosen. Russia and Iran have both sat down to influence the vacant province. Both these countries are against the United States. In America's absence, it will do its utmost to play an important role in the Middle East. Of course, the US Department of Defense and other security experts believe that eliminating all troops is not in America's interest. For Donald Trump to reconsider his own decision. Currently, Trump has called for the troops to remain there.

Preparation of Kurds

The Kurds and the Turks have an issue against each other. So the Kurdish army is preparing enough for the fight. The trench (canal-like construction) is placed over the border, so that troops cannot be seen in the eyes of Turkish drones and other cameras. In this way, another preparation for the fight has been made. The Kurdish population is not only in Syria, but also in Turkey. Turkey fears that Syria and Turkey's Kurds will not join together and form their own separate province. The government is intact in Turkey, so the Kurds could not occupy a particular area like Syria. On the other hand, complaints about the injustice of the Kurds in Syria over the years have also been rising.
