The UN will lose $ 23 million in funding by the end of October

United Nations, Ta. October 8, 2019, Tuesday

The global body of the United Nations (UN) is in debt of $ 23 million and will end its financing by the end of this month, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said. More steps have been called to ensure wages and allowances for the UN's 37,000 employees.

Guatres stated in the letter that Member States have deposited only 70 percent of the budget required for the operation of the UN in 2019. This has led to a shortfall of $ 23 million by the end of September. The reserve amount is likely to expire by the end of this month. In order to cut costs, Guatres has directed directors to avoid assemblies and meetings and travel only if necessary.

It is worth mentioning that, according to sources, Gutres appealed to the Member States to increase their contribution earlier this year but the Member States rejected the appeal.

If the United Nations peace missions were to be deducted, the operating cost of this global resource would be approximately $ 5.4 billion in 2018-19. Of which 22 percent is funded by the United States.
