Supreme Court hearing today on the demolition of 2700 trees in Mumbai

In Mumbai, the government has ordered to cut down about 2700 trees. Amidst this situation, there is growing fury among the people. Only those who are campaigning to save the trees are being detained. On the other hand, the Supreme Court has now taken note of the entire incident and will hear the matter on the part of Suo Moto.

The government has cut 200 trees for the metro rail project in the colony near Mumbai, while another 2500 trees are still to be cut. The operation is going on which the residents of this colony are protesting heavily and are protesting on the road. However, the police have arrested only those who raised their voice to save the trees.

On the other hand, a special bench of the Supreme Court will now hear the matter as part of the suo moto. The notice issued on the Supreme Court's website states that a special bench was constituted for hearing of the case at 10 am on October 7.

A group of law students from Noida went to appear before Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. In this presentation, the students demanded that the Supreme Court intervene in this matter on an urgent basis. The submission has been taken by the Supreme Court as Suomoto and will now hear the matter on its own.
