Lock the tab after the horse is released: The Supreme Stay after 2141 tree intersections

Many people went to court to save the trees, were detained and imprisoned, but the government kept their minds open.

New Delhi, Oct 7, 2019, Monday

Due to the metro project in Mumbai, several trees were cut down. There has been a lot of anger among the people in this regard and there have been protests by the aristocrats. In the midst of this situation, the Supreme Court has directed the Maharashtra government not to cut down the trees at present.

However, this order has come up when the Maharashtra government has stated that cutting down as many trees as they want is no longer required. About 2141 trees have been cut down by local administration in Mumbai area. The clarification comes as the Supreme Court has ordered not to cut any trees from the area till October 21st.

Although the colony area around Mumbai has been declared a green zone, the local administration has allowed 2700 trees to be cut for the metro car shed here. According to the housekeeper, 2141 trees have been cut down. At the same time, those who were protesting were detained, though they have been released recently.

On the other hand, in the midst of the situation where the trees were being cut, Noida's law students presented a decision not to cut the trees before Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. The presentation was taken by Chief Justice Gogoi as Suo Moto and ordered the Maharashtra government not to cut down the trees till the next hearing. The Supreme Court will now hold further hearing on October 21 in this regard.

However, the solicitor general present on behalf of the Maharashtra government had assured the Supreme Court that not a single tree could be cut from the area till the next hearing. On the other hand, there are reports that the administration has said that as many trees as needed for this project have been cut down and no further cutting is needed.

There is a lot of resentment among the people about the functioning of the government. Many people are protesting by taking to the streets. However, it has no effect on the government and only those who are protesting were detained.

Locals in Mumbai are protesting against the cutting of trees by locals, many have even gone to jail for this. Nevertheless, the administration cut off 2141 trees overnight. The government claims to have done so since the metro car shed in the area was coming up. However, the fury of the locals is on the rise and its impact can be seen in the Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled for this month.

A statement issued by MMRCL stated that we have cut down as many trees as we need and that construction work on these buildings will be issued in the coming days. We claimed that this decision was in keeping with the order of the High Court.

However, in just two days, 2141 trees have been cut down when it took years to grow them. Protesting these trees has long been carried out by the locals for a long time. However, it has no effect on governance. It was decided to cut about 2700 trees, out of which 2141 have been cut down.

The inclusion of Aare in the election manifesto in Maharashtra

The NCP and Congress have declared election manifesto amid the Forest dispute over Mumbai. However, in this election manifesto, both sides have also joined the Forest dispute.

He has assured that his government will prevent any such incident and will also order an inquiry into the matter. Elections are scheduled to be held on October 21st for 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra. The result will be announced on October 24.

BJP and Shiv Sena are contesting in this election. In the manifesto announced by Congress and the NCP, it has also provisioned 80 percent of the job reservation for the locals. At the same time, both sides have covered issues like global warming in their election manifesto.

The cutting of trees in the area has become a political issue with regard to elections. All parties are defending themselves in this regard. And strangely, the Shiv Sena is also claiming that we should not cut down more trees in the forest while locals allege that the present power belongs to the Shiv Sena and is making such claims.
