(PTI) New Delhi, October 7, 2019, Monday

Taking an important step in the process of tax reform, the Income Tax Department has launched a Faceless e-Assessment Scheme. Under this scheme, the taxing officer and the taxpayer will not come into contact with each other.

Under the National E Assessment Center (NEAC) officially launched by Revenue Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey, 58,322 income tax cases have been initially selected.

The scheme was to be inaugurated by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, but since it was busy with other work, Revenue Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey inaugurated the scheme.

Pandey said the scheme would reduce the taxpayer's problem and save him time. This system will stop the interference of officers in the Income Tax Assessment System.

He further said that the National E Assessment Center (NEAC) would provide a Faceless E Assessment Scheme across the country and would benefit the taxpayers. 2686 officers of income tax department have been selected for implementation of this scheme.

Informing the journalists about the scheme, Pandey said that anyone who issued an inquiry order against him would have to submit all his documents online. The selection of officers will also be randomly conducted to investigate such cases.

When the Revenue Secretary was asked whether the government was going to provide any relief in personal income tax? So in response to this Pandey said that I have no information on this.

It is worth mentioning that the taxpayer and the investigating officer were interviewed several times during the taxpayer investigation in the system till date. This would increase the chances of corruption.

A system of e-assessment has been launched to eradicate this corruption. The creation of the National E Assessment Center is a historic step, the Finance Ministry said in a statement. This initiative, taken on the part of Digital India, will be beneficial to the taxpayer.
