Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti: Shastri's wife was offended by the return of the winning crop.

New Delhi, 2 October 2019, Wednesday

Jay Jawan, Jay Kisan is the 2nd Prime Minister of the country to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri on October 2. The example of excellence in public life is less seen today than it was in the 1965 war between India and Pakistan that led to his leadership in the war, his resignation from the Railway Ministry.

Taking a look at the history of modern India, Shastriji provides an example of an ideal leader who lives a life of simplicity and honesty. So let's know today about some of the most memorable events of his lifetime.

Returning financially helped

During the war of independence there was an event. At that time Lala Lajpat Rai founded the Servants of India Society, which provided financial assistance to the poorest leaders fighting for independence. The society used to provide Rs. 50 a month to Shastriji to run the house.

He once wrote a letter to wife Lalita from jail and asked if 50 rupees given by the society was sufficient? In response, Lalitaji said that the house was only running at Rs 40. Then Shastriji wrote a letter to the Society and 40 rupees is sufficient for his family, then the aid should be reduced to Rs 40 instead of 50.

Non-use of Government vehicles

Lal Bahadur Shastri's son Sunil Shastri's book 'Lal Bahadur Shastri, Mere Babuji' states that Shastriji did not use a car at government expense. Once Sunil Shastri had driven his father's car, he deposited the kilometer of money in the government account. It is said that until Shastriji became Prime Minister, he had neither his own house nor a vehicle.

Once their children said that you are the Prime Minister of the country then you should own a car. At that time the Fiat car was priced at Rs 12,000. Shastriji had only Rs 7,000 in his account and bought a car with a loan of Rs 5000 from PNB.

Wife Lalita's self esteem

He died a year after the incident before paying off a car loan. Indiraji was the Prime Minister at that time and offered to waive the loan to Shastriji's wife. But Lalita Shastri did not accept it. He returned the loan from his pension four years after Shastri died.

Did you know that this car still exists? He has been kept at Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial, Delhi. People come from far and wide to see it. It is said that once a cooler was installed at Shastri's house by a government department. When he found out about it, he removed it and gave him a reason to get used to it.

Wife angry at returning crop to Haji Pir

Renowned journalist Kuldeep Nair was the press secretary of Shastriji. According to one of the events he mentioned, an agreement was reached between India and Pakistan in Tashkent in 1966. Shastri signed the agreement as the Prime Minister. According to the agreement, Haji Pir and Thithwal were to return to Pakistan.

The move has led to criticism in India. His wife was also offended by this. When Shastriji called her home, her daughter spoke on the phone and said that Amma was upset with the agreement and would not speak. They became uncomfortable to know about the sensations of the people of India.

Appealed to the countrymen to fast

The leaders of today also meet Shastriji in the same way as gifts. But he didn't like to take things that way. After becoming Prime Minister, Shastri went to buy a sari for his wife. If the owner of the mill showed them some expensive saris, he simply replied that he had no money to buy such expensive saris.

Even if the mill owner talks about giving a sari gift, do not accept them. At a time when there was a famine problem in the country, Shastri appealed to the countrymen to fast one day. However, at that time, Shastriji also performed a regular fast and instructed the family to do the same.
