Diwali crackers sellers in Dubai will face imprisonment and hefty fines

As part of the measures taken to curb illegal fireworks in Dubai, anyone caught selling fireworks will have to pay a three-month jail sentence and a fine of 5,000 rupees, according to media here. According to an imprint the penalty amount is five thousand dirhams fixed.

During the Diwali festival, Dubai municipal inspectors are conducting heavy checks in the city and take legal action against anyone who is caught selling illegal fireworks.

City police noted that the contamination was largely prevented due to increased awareness of pollution among the people, reports said. In any event, if fireworks are to be fired, it is imperative to seek the authority.

In the past, there have been instances where authorities have taken stringent action against crackers and violators in breaking the law. In 2005, the police seized 23 tonnes of fireworks. While 28 tonnes were seized in 2014 and 13 tonnes in 2012, the reports said.
