99 per cent of sanctions lifted in Kashmir: Govt

Following the abolition of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, several sanctions were imposed following fears of violence. However, gradually the process of removing all these restrictions was initiated.

While both postpaid and prepaid mobile networks are banned, a government-issued statement said that any ban on postpaid telecom networks would be lifted from the state on Monday. The announcement was made by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Rohit Kansal. He said any sanctions that were gradually being lifted or removed were also included in the mobile network. According to the government's claim, the decision has been taken to remove these restrictions only after the situation in Kashmir has been taken into account. The sanctions were imposed as terrorists were on the verge of inciting violence using the Internet or the telephone, but they are now being lifted. Prepaid restrictions will also be removed after postpaid.
