Why is this temple located in Pune called Modi Ganapati?

Ganeshotsav is celebrated at the temple called Modi Ganapati in Narayan Peth in Pune. This Modi temple is also known as the Bombay Ganpati Temple. The garden near this temple is named Khushrut Sheth Modi. An idol of Lord Ganesha was erected in this garden. Hence this temple is called Modi Ganapati Temple.

This temple was built by the Bhat in the name of Ratnagiri Kokanastha Brahmana in the beginning of the 8th Century (I3). The tabernacle of the temple was later erected in AD 9. The pinnacle of this temple is in the Devaali style which comes in the classified Nagara style. A semi-circular window is made up of rows in the shape of windows.


It has a brick wall construction around the temple and the structure of the temple and sanctuary of the temple. The sanctuary of this temple has wooden carvings and ceilings of the then Peshwas. Which is very similar to the temple of Kasapadeh Ganapati of Pune. The temple has a rectangular view. The rooms adjoining the tabernacle are used for residential and administrative functions.

The walls of the House are decorated with pictures of Lord Shri Ganesh. The image of Lord Ganesha is erected in a bronze shrine. The roof of the House is typical of the houses located in the Konkan region. This is an incredible sight that has ancient heritage value.
