Aligarh, Ta. 12 September 2019 Thursday
Religious societies in Aligarh were once again in tension with regard to religion-based dress. College student leaders had announced that if Muslim students came in wearing a burqa and hat, we would come to college wearing saffron robes.
A few days ago, a college in Uttar Pradesh banned Muslim women from wearing a burqa at college. Now, the hotness of the issue started at DS College.
Student leaders gave college administrators an ultimatum that all colleges in Aligarh should have the same dress code઼.
No one can come to college wearing a costume that declares the identity of their own religion. We gave a statement to DS College Chief Proctor Mukesh Bhardwaj on Wednesday that in the 72 hours the burqa and Muslim identity cap should be removed from the college premises otherwise we will be wearing saffron.
Student leaders have to make a similar statement to the administrators of the other two colleges. He said that we do not understand why there is a need to come dressed in religious institutions with religious identity. What kind of privilege is this?
