I did not join Congress to make a lifetime career in politics: Tharoor

New delhi date. September 9, 2019, Monday

I did not join the Congress to make a career in politics but I joined the Congress because it is the most important means of advancing the idea of inclusive India, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said today.

The idea of inclusive India cannot be left for just one seat or five per cent of the vote because in the end it will only ask what our attitude is. In an interview yesterday too, Tharoor said that it was the duty of Congress to protect secularism.

The solution of the party's problem in the Hindi belt is not to propose any kind of 'Hindu Hindutva' in the way of 'appeasement of the majority' or 'Coke Lite' and if Congress goes this route, it will become zero.

In an interview released earlier in his book release, Tharoor said that the claim of Hindus by BJP and its allies is not different from 'mischievous supporters of British football'.

What is being propagated by the ruling party is not Hinduism in the true spirit but it is like distorting a great vote. Which they have transformed into a narrow political weapon for purely political gain.

There are currently many people in India who are committed to opposing the current conservative trend and will constantly ensure that a distorted thought does not succeed in India. Congress plays an important role in securing secularism in India. It is his duty to lead it.

Tharoor has said that instead of fearing the BJP's success, it would be better for the Congress to come up with principles that it believes in forever and inspire the people of the country to implement it.
