New Delhi, August 21, 2019, Wednesday

For the past year, the issue of linking Aadhaar card with social media like Facebook has been running in the High Court of the country. However, Facebook has now demanded that the case be transferred to the Supreme Court. Facebook says the decision could take time because of a court-run case. Therefore, it is appropriate that every case be heard in the Supreme Court.

Three applications for linking Aadhaar card to Facebook and WhatsApp account have been filed in the Madras, Bombay and Madhya Pradesh High Courts. Facebook has said that there are four such cases going on in different High Courts.

In this regard, Kapil Sibal from WhatsApp has said that the policy matters cannot be decided by the High Court. Because it falls within the jurisdiction of Parliament. He said that all the cases should be heard in the Supreme Court. Sibal further said that the main issue is WhatsApp which is policy related. At the same time the matter is connected with the citizens of the country. He should be heard in the Supreme Court. He further added that the Supreme Court should hear the matter and issue an order on it.
