The CBI does not properly investigate the politically sensitive cases

CBI works well in non-politics: Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi

New delhi date. August 13, 2019, Tuesday

Criticizing the CBI on Tuesday, Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi said that the CBI works well when there is no case involving politics. While its investigation into sensitive cases involving politics does not meet the criteria for judicial inquiry.

The CJI criticized the CBI for failing to punish the culprit in high profile cases. In the 18th edition of the DP Kohli Memorial Lecture, the CJI said on Tuesday that its failure to attract CBI's own position has attracted much attention.

The Chief Justice also expressed concern over the disparity in the CBI. He said that 15 per cent of the vacancy in the executive is vacant. Even 28 percent of the space on technical terms is vacant. Even 50 percent of the space in the agency's legal department is vacant. Due to this the workload is increasing.

Political pressures affect investigations. There is not enough investment in the CBI. Which affects the investigation. The CJIA had asked the CBI that the investigation is good when there is no political connection.

The Supreme Court has issued a guideline for the appointment of CBI Director in the Vineet Narayan case. Courts have issued several guidelines to protect the CBI from political influence. The CBI, like the CAG, should have autonomy through constitutional act.
