(PTI) New Delhi, Ta. August 19, 2019, Monday

Following India's announcement of Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Modi spoke to US President Donald Trump over the phone during the first high-level conversation. The conversation lasted 30 minutes. Bilateral relations and mutual cooperation were also discussed during the dialogue.

The issue of cross-border terrorism was also discussed in the dialogue between the two leaders. Modi, without naming Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan, said some leaders were making provocative speeches that threaten regional peace.

The Prime Minister's Office has described the telephone conversation between the two leaders as a successful one. It is worth mentioning that two days ago, Trump asked Imran Khan to resolve the Kashmir issue through talks with India.

Prime Minister Modi indirectly referred to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's anti-India statements during his talks with Trump. Modi said that such provocation for violence against India was not conducive to peace.

Referring to the regional situation, Modi said that it was inappropriate to make statements by some leaders in the region to incite violence against India. Prime Minister Modi today reiterated his commitment to cooperate with any country that supports the fight against poverty, illiteracy and diseases.

The two leaders also spoke on the Afghanistan issue. Referring to the completion of 100 years of Afghanistan's independence, Prime Minister Modi said that we are ready to work for an independent Afghanistan in a secure, organized and democratic and realistic way.

In a statement to the government, the government said that in connection with the talks between Modi and Trump in Osaka, Japan, Modi had said that the Commerce Minister of India and the US Trade Representative would meet soon. The meeting will discuss the trade issues between the two countries in detail.
