In this district of India is celebrated on the 18th of August, the reason is interesting

Kolkata, Ta: 16th August 2019, Friday

The whole country celebrated Independence Day on August 15. However, there is a district in India where Independence Day is celebrated not on 15th August but also with the approval of the government.

It's annoying to read, but the reason behind it is so interesting. On August 12, 1947, All India Radio broadcast that India had gained independence and the country was divided.

It was stated in the report that Nadia district, a Hindu-majority area of West Bengal, has been included in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Then there was fury among the people.

The administration's mistake was to include Nadia district in East Pakistan. It was the English officer Sir Radcliffe's responsibility to draw a map to divide India's crops. He made the mistake of showing Nadia district in Pakistan in the map.

Tensions spread in the Nadiya district after the news spread and tornadoes erupted. Most people were opposed to the British decision. On the other hand, the Muslims of the district were excited over the news of their involvement in East Pakistan. He had hoisted the Pakistani flag. Which made the situation even more tense.

However, the British government withdrew its decision after a majority opposition. Subsequently, a change of map was made in India to Ranaghat, Krishnanagar and Karimpur in Nadia district. It did take a while though. Due to this, Nadia district was officially incorporated in India at midnight on 17th August instead of 15th August. People celebrated this day in a most spectacular way.

On August 18, 1947, the tricolor was flown by unloading a Pakistani flag that was planted at the Krishnanagar library. When the whole country celebrated Independence on 15th August, the 18th of August was a day of celebration for the people of Nadiya district.

Anjan Shukul, grandson of Premnath Shukul, a freedom fighter, challenged the celebration of Independence on August 18 to commemorate the struggle that the people of Nadiya district had made to join India.
