40-year record of floods broken in Delhi, calls Kejriwal emergency meeting

New Delhi, August 19, 2019, Monday

The capital Yamuna river in New Delhi was flooding for the first time in the last forty years and was reported to be ready to cross the danger surface. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called an emergency meeting of his cabinet. In the last twelve hours, 21 lakh cusecs of water was released from Hathinikund Baraj. The residents of Delhi were shocked by the water that was coming from such a large and extremely high speed.

In the last forty years, such a ruddy form of Pahliwara Yamuna was observed. Delhi government on Sunday warned people of low lying areas to move elsewhere.

On the one hand, it was raining and on the other hand, with such huge reservoirs being released from the Hathinikund barrage, on Monday morning, the water level of the Yamuna was expected to reach 207 meters. The Cabinet had given preparatory orders for the relief work by discussing the situation.
