The country experienced more than 900 earthquake shocks in the last three years

Recently, Arunachal Pradesh had been quake four times within 24 hours due to fear of people. In addition, reports are also reported that Assam is also experiencing tremors, according to a report from the Ministry of Earth Sciences, in the last three years, there have been more than 900 earthquakes of magnitude 1.8 to 6.6 magnitude in India.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other state level officials are working to educate the general public and school children on earthquake and its effects and to raise awareness about the damage caused by the earthquake.

The National Center for Earthquake Sciences (NCS), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, maintains a seismic network that operates twenty-four hours to monitor seismic activity in the country and its surroundings.

The network has reported 932 earthquakes of 1.8 to 6.6 magnitudes in India from January 1, 2016 to June 30, 2019. In Manipur and Andaman-Nicobar Islands, earthquakes of more than 6.0 were experienced in 2016, 2017 and 2019, while the rest of the earthquakes were less severe.

Special guidelines have been issued for the safety of the people of the region in areas where the country is at high risk for earthquake. Guidelines have been issued by the Quality Office (BIS), Building Material and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), Housing and Urban Development Corporation, NDMA, etc. to prepare earthquake resistant structures to minimize earthquake damage.

The seismic zones have been divided into seismic zones -2,3,4 and 5 m by four earthquake statistics. The northeastern province in zone five is considered highly susceptible to earthquake while the second zone is less likely to be earthquake.
