Four killed in ONGC helicopter crash in Arabian Sea near Mumbai

An ONGC wind Hans helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea near Mumbai. The helicopter had two crew pilots and seven passengers on board. Four people, including three ONGC employees, were killed in the accident. Earlier, the Indian Coast Guard said in a tweet that all those aboard the helicopter had been rescued.

The tragedy occurred about 50 nautical miles west of the Mumbai coast. As soon as the incident was reported, a Coast Guard ship rushed to the spot.

An official of the company said that the helicopter had survived the sinking with the help of floaters for some time which helped all the people to get out.

He said four people aboard the helicopter were knocked unconscious. He was airlifted to a Mumbai hospital by an Indian Navy helicopter. Where he was pronounced dead.

The helicopter was carrying six ONGC employees and one person was associated with the company's contractor. It was not immediately clear what caused the accident.

It may be mentioned that ONGC's important oil and gas fields are located on the coast of Mumbai. Wind swan helicopters regularly take ONGC employees and officials to the oil installation site. Which are located 150 km from the coast.

Helicopter crashes are not new in the history of ONGC. Earlier , a Mi-17 helicopter crashed in August 2009, killing eight people and the pilot .

An ONGC helicopter crashed onJanuary 17 ,2016, killing five ONGC officials and two pilots.
