MOTN Survey: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity remains, first choice for PM

Though Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the border dispute with China and the Corona, according to the Mood of the Nation (MOTN) survey, Modi's popularity remains the same. Not only that, he is still the most popular option as the next Prime Minister of India.

In a recent Mood of the Nation survey, 66 per cent of people believe that Narendra Modi should be the next Prime Minister of India. Rahul Gandhi is second only to Modi but he could not touch the figure of 10. However with 8 percent of the vote they need a second choice.

Amit Shah in fourth place

Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the third most popular leader for the PM's job with 5 per cent votes. Home Minister Amit Shah is fourth on the list with 4 per cent votes. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Arvind Kejriwal are also on the list and both got 3-3 per cent votes. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also got a place in the list with 2-2 per cent votes.

Apart from Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati and Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav are also among the leaders whom people are talking about as the next prime minister.

Rahul Gandhi's popularity plummeted

In a January 2020 poll, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was chosen as the most popular leader as Prime Minister. According to a survey conducted for the then Prime Minister, the gap between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi was 40 per cent. At that time, 53 per cent people chose Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister and only 13 per cent said Rahul Gandhi should be the next Prime Minister of the country. However, in a poll conducted in January 2019 for the PM's job, Rahul Gandhi got the highest number of 52 per cent votes.

A total of 12,021 people were interviewed for the Mood of the Nation survey of which 67 per cent were rural and the remaining 33 per cent were urban. The survey covered a total of 97 Lok Sabha and 194 Assembly seats in 19 states.

Survey in 19 states

The 19 states surveyed include Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Included. The survey was conducted between July 15 and July 27 and involved 52 per cent men and 48 per cent women.

According to religion, 86 per cent Hindus, 9 per cent Muslims and 5 per cent people of other faiths were surveyed. The people surveyed included 30 per cent gold, 25 per cent SC-ST and 44 per cent other backward classes. Until now the survey was traditionally conducted by face-to-face revelation but this time the people involved in the survey were called to know their views due to the Corona epidemic.
